Registered Nurse - Telemetry

Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1:6-7
Floating: Required


Job Details

  • Telemetry experience required
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • First-time travelers are welcome

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Pennsylvania or Compact RN license in hand
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (annual renewal required)
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid RN license in Pennsylvania
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check including SS trace, county searches for all locations lived/worked/schooled, nationwide, sex offender, and Pennsylvania statewide (Patch Certificate)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check required
  • HHS/OIG check required
  • Education verification required (transcripts, diplomas, or 3rd party verifications accepted)
  • PA Child Abuse Search (Childline) within 1 year of start
  • PA FBI Fingerprinting within 12 months of start (must be completed in Pennsylvania)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot) within 6 months or chest X-ray within 5 years
  • Tdap vaccination within the past 10 years (declination form accepted)
  • Flu vaccine or facility-specific declination (mask required if declined during flu season Nov-April)
  • COVID vaccine or facility-specific declination
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines; declination forms accepted with documentation
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or 3 vaccine series; declination forms accepted with documentation
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history of chickenpox; declination forms accepted with documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Alcohol breathalyzer test within 30 days of start (not required at some facilities)

Competencies & Training

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Competency exam as applicable
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required annually for Emergency Department, Behavioral Health, and Acute Care Units (online training accepted)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management certification required annually for applicable units (online training accepted)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge (no filters)
  • Completion of facility orientation packet and acknowledgements prior to start
  • Completion of medical surveillance checklist prior to start
  • Completion of bloodborne pathogen quiz prior to start
  • Completion of vaccine declination forms if applicable

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references within 3 years of hire required
  • Annual skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Floating between units is required
  • Patient ratio typically 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
  • Night shift only, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
