Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5; may flex to 1:6 occasionally (travelers expected to take extra patients)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (higher value confirmed)
  • First-time Travelers: Not accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • Floating: Regular floating within scope to different departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Charge RN Assignments: May be required as needed
  • Holiday Shifts: May be required
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
  • On-call: Not required
  • Block Schedule Accommodation: Not available

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required (no pending at start)
  • State license primary source verification (Missouri licenses via NURSYS)
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include full panel and not expire during assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually

  • Background checks and state-specific searches as required by Missouri and Illinois regulations
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, regulatory compliance education, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be completed prior to start
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
  • Employment application and references required (two professional references preferred within last year)

Additional Notes

  • Floating between units and departments is expected to meet facility needs
  • Holiday and charge nurse shifts may be assigned as needed
  • No on-call or block scheduling accommodations
  • Candidates must be at least 75 miles away from the facility to qualify as a traveler

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with at least 2 years in progressive care or telemetry settings who are comfortable with flexible patient ratios, floating, and weekend/holiday shifts in a high-acuity, Magnet-recognized tertiary care hospital.
