Job Opportunity: Surgical Services (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bel Air, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Schedule: 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (day shift)
• Weekends as needed
• No on-call required
• Minimum Specialty Experience: 5 years
• Open to first-time travelers (prior travel experience NOT required)
• Certification required (specific certifications detailed below)

Required Certifications & Competencies

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only; required for critical care, telemetry, oncology, and cath lab techs
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
• NIH Stroke Certification – Required for all RNs except OR, PACU, and Family Birth Pavilion; must be updated annually
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (score 80%+)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
  • General Competency Exam (score 80%+)
  • Age Specific Competency Exam (score 80%+)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (score 80%+; required for cath lab techs; not required for NICU)
• Other certifications as applicable based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, STABLE, CPI)

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex Screen
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
• Immunizations/vaccinations:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children and certain other units)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella – Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters required
  • Hepatitis B – Positive titer or declination accepted (series not accepted)
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required by 12/2/25
• Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel depending on source) within 30-45 days prior to start; instant tests NOT accepted
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol; must be updated annually
• COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation or declination collected for tracking

Background & Verification

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start; must be updated annually
• Education verification for highest level of education
• Employment history verification for previous 5 years (attestation accepted if necessary)
• Two professional references required within 1 year of start (one must be a supervisor/manager or charge RN)
• Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Confidentiality agreement and various facility-specific documents must be signed prior to start
• Photo for badge (passport-style with solid white/beige background)
• Completion of OSHA questionnaire and other compliance documents
• Review and sign appearance standards, fingernail hygiene policy, standards of business conduct, and agency acknowledgements
• Unit-specific job description must be signed prior to start (for RNs and applicable clinical staff)
• Portfolio Epic training test-out form may be required depending on prior Epic experience

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract position in Surgical Services requiring a minimum of 5 years of specialty experience. The position offers day shifts with no call and occasional weekends. Prior travel experience is NOT required, making it suitable for first-time travelers. Candidates must meet comprehensive certification, health, background, and facility-specific compliance requirements before starting.
