Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Madison, Wisconsin

Job Details

Shift & Schedule

  • Evening/Night shifts
  • 12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
  • Every other weekend and some holidays

Unit & Patient Population

  • Neuro ICU, 18-bed critical care unit
  • Care for critically ill adult patients with neuro diagnoses including stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, surgical resections, and trauma
  • Unit supports a Comprehensive Stroke Center

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • Experience with ICP (Intracranial Pressure) or ventriculostomy care required
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start
  • Epic electronic health record experience required (preferred within last 12 months)
  • Must have successfully completed at least one prior travel assignment of 13 weeks (prior travel experience required)

Licensure & Certifications

  • Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
  • BLS & ACLS certifications required (American Heart Association only)
  • Telemetry test pass required before starting
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit needs

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized interventions and procedures such as hemodynamic monitoring and hypothermia management
  • Utilize strong critical thinking skills in care of neuro critical patients
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary care team including nationally certified physicians
  • May float to other units or locations as needed during assignment

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Candidate’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the work site
  • Floating is expected; traveler may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs
  • Telemetry test and other competency exams must be completed and passed prior to start and updated annually
  • Facility requires various background checks, education verifications, and compliance with state-specific mandates
  • Immunization and health document requirements include TB testing, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccination or approved exemptions, and others as per facility policy
  • Drug screening required per Vaya standards
  • Facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be completed timely

This position is ideal for experienced acute care RNs with neuro ICU or telemetry experience who have prior travel contract experience and are looking for a challenging role in a top-ranked hospital setting.
