Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
Unit: Phase I PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Work Details
- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, Monday-Friday, rotating start times as needed
- No weekends or on-call required
- Average daily census: 70-90 patients
- Unit size: 38 patient bays, open 24/7
- Patient population: Adults, occasional adolescents, and geriatric patients
- Surgical patients recovered include: Neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant (excluding open heart surgeries and liver transplants)
- Unit has its own Patient Care Technician (PCT) and transport team
- Night shift may require learning pre-op patient workup
- Floating: May float within scope to PACU or PreOp units only
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Critical care experience required, including:
- Dysrhythmia recognition/management
- Blood product administration
- Phlebotomy
- Starting IVs and managing IV vasopressors
- ICP (Intracranial Pressure) monitoring
- Care of ventilated patients
- Skills: Inpatient care in a Level I Trauma Center environment
Licensing & Compliance
- Pending licenses accepted
- Must be at least 75 miles from facility to qualify (no locals accepted)
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
Facility & Documentation Requirements
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Parking cost: $15/day or $70/month
Required Documentation & Compliance (selected highlights)
- Government-issued ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri licenses)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a full panel of substances
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) with annual renewal
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap (or Td for renewals)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (with yearly TB questionnaire)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Facility-specific documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality form, hand hygiene and dress code policies, among others
- Competency exams: Medication/pharmacology, unit-specific skills, dysrhythmia/EKG competency (updated annually)
- References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
