• Patient Ratios:

  • Day shifts: 1 nurse to 5 patients
  • Day shifts with LPN: 1 nurse to 7 patients
  • Night shifts: 1 nurse to 6 patients
  • Night shifts with LPN: 1 nurse to 8 patients

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all travelers (AHA, ARC, Military acceptable)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required as applicable (AHA, ARC, Military acceptable)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required as applicable (AHA, ARC, Military acceptable)
• NIH Stroke Certification: Required for all RNs, must be renewed annually
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required for Emergency Department, Behavioral Health, and Acute Care Units; online training accepted; annual certification required
• NURSYS Verification: Required for RN, LPN/LVN, AP
• State License Verification: Primary source online verification required

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Background Check: 7-year criminal search within 1 year of start, including SS trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide, sex offender, PA statewide (Patch Certificate)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM Check: Required
• HHS/OIG Check: Required
• Education Verification: Required for all positions (transcripts, diplomas, or 3rd party verifications accepted)
• Fingerprinting: PA FBI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start; must be completed in Pennsylvania; results required before start
• References: 2 professional references within 3 years of hire

Competency Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable; must meet or exceed passing score
• Competency Exam: Required as applicable; must meet or exceed passing score

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start
• Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Vaccination within past 10 years; declinations accepted with form
• Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray: Negative PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot within 6 months of start; chest X-ray within 5 years if applicable
• Vaccinations or Declinations Required:

  • Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive titer; declinations accepted with form; candidates born before 1957 exempt
  • Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer; declinations accepted with form; candidates born before 1957 exempt
  • Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; declinations accepted with form; candidates born before 1957 exempt
  • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or declination accepted
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of chickenpox; declinations accepted
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Dose 1 and fully vaccinated (dose 2 if applicable) or declination required
  • Flu Vaccine (Seasonal): Required during flu season (Nov-April) or declination with mask requirement through 3/31/2025

Facility Specific Requirements

• Photo for Badge: Passport style photo required (no filters)
• Orientation Packet & Acknowledgements: Must be reviewed and signed prior to start
• Medical Surveillance Checklist: Must be completed prior to start
• Bloodborne Pathogen Quiz: Must be completed before start
• Vaccine Declination Forms: Required if declining MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap, or Flu vaccines
• COVID Declination Form: Required if declining COVID vaccines

Additional Notes

• No local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius.
• First-time travel nurses are welcome.
• Annual certifications required for certain trainings (MAB, CPI, NIH Stroke).
• Fingerprinting and background checks must be completed and on file prior to start.
• Masking required if flu vaccine is declined during flu season.

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience who hold a PA or compact nursing license and are comfortable working in a travel/contract role with specified patient ratios and compliance requirements.
