Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Registered Nurse

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role: Registered Nurse in Stepdown/Cardiac unit
  • Schedule: Day shifts with 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday), 4 Mondays, and 4 Fridays
  • Floating: PCU/Stepdown/IMCU units
  • On-Call: Yes
  • Blocked Scheduling: Not available
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue
  • First-time travelers and local candidates are welcome

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
  • Experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit), DOU (Direct Observation Unit), Intermediate Care, and Stepdown units
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid I9 or Attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Social Security Card (if used for I9)
  • Background checks including:
    • Nationwide and county-specific checks for past 7 years
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List Search
    • Education verification as applicable
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccination or positive antibody titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations not accepted)
    • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start
  • References: 2 professional references from employment within last 12 months (at least 1 supervisor)
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
  • Competency exams and unit-specific training as required

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
  • Candidate must set up a Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
  • Online modules must be completed prior to orientation
  • Competency checklists must be completed within 3 weeks after start date

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates within 75 miles considered with adjusted pay rate
  • Candidates with less than 30-day gap from previous assignment may have some documentation accepted on file
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation if applicable
