Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVOR

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse
  • Patient Population: Adult open heart surgery patients including CABG and valve surgeries (aortic, mitral, pulmonic)
  • Unit: CVOR with floating to Main OR if no CVOR cases during the shift
  • Call Requirements: 32 total hours per month
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrubs: Provided

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of Registered Nurse experience in specialty
  • Scrub experience required for open CVOR cases
  • Circulate and TAVR experience highly preferred
  • Knowledge of Impella and HeartMate devices
  • Experience with ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR procedures (also performed in Main OR)

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required
  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room): Preferred

Schedule & Policies

  • Schedule accommodations (block/time off) must be requested and approved prior to offer
  • Locals are accepted for this position

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Must provide 2 references within the last 2 years (at least one managerial)
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
  • New Jersey candidates require work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start date
  • Must complete required background checks and drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Required health documents include:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
    • Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
    • Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Fit testing and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start (updated annually)
  • Completion of medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy, and pharmacology competency exams within 72 hours of signing
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication required with remediation policy in place
  • Color blindness testing required if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Completion of facility-specific education and attestations prior to start, including annual education sign-off and floating policy acknowledgment

Important Notes

  • Prior travel experience is highly preferred but not mandatory; first-time travelers will be considered
  • Floating to Main OR may be required if no CVOR cases during shift
  • Must be able to work call hours as specified
  • Scrub and circulate skills in CVOR and TAVR procedures are important for success in this role
