Travel Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Illinois, Chicago

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
  • Location: Chicago, Illinois
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (No block scheduling)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Float Requirement: Mandatory float within scope as needed by facility
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification - Required (must be updated annually)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Must live within 75 miles of the facility (locals preferred)
  • Pending licenses are not accepted

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing, with at least 1 year of recent experience
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Experience in an acute care setting

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, annual renewal required
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct-April)

Competency Exams (Required for start on/after specified dates)

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 12 months)
  • Color Blind Testing Online (within 12 months)
  • General Competency Exam (within 12 months)

Background Checks and Verifications

  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Illinois Health Care Worker Registry search (not required for RNs)
  • Drug testing and other standard background verifications as per facility policy

Notes

  • No prior travel experience is explicitly required for this position.
  • Floating to other units within scope is mandatory.
  • No time off (RTO) allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after holidays.
  • Locals preferred; must reside within 75 miles of the facility.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg RNs seeking a travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma Center with a structured night shift schedule and mandatory floating responsibilities.
