Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Day/Night rotating or straight nights
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of independent PICU experience in a 20-bed PICU or larger
- First-time travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekends for a 13-week assignment; more weekends required for longer assignments
- On-call: Not required but available for pick-up
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs; includes one orientation shift in the CICU for float training
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes

Required Certifications and Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington (Compact license accepted)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA Provider only, instructor not accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA Provider only, instructor not accepted)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
- PICU experience within the last year
Additional Requirements
- Must include Requested Time Off (RTO) on initial submission for approval
- No RTO during first 2 weeks due to orientation
- Travelers scheduled for 6 weekends, not every other weekend
- Scheduling weeks run Monday through Sunday
- Night shift travelers may have night before RTO off
- Scheduling is managed by facility schedulers; no self-scheduling
- Potential for precepting opportunities

Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required (or background within past year with all searches completed)
- Various background checks including national, state, county civil, sex offender, and global sanctions
- Drug screening: 12-panel drug test within 1 year of start, covering marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and others
- State-specific searches and verifications as required
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Fit mask test required within 12 months prior to end of assignment; fit testing on site not allowed
- Respiratory protection clearance required annually for respirator use
- Immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct-March)
- COVID vaccine strongly recommended but not required
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (pediatric focus)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for PICU nurses (passing score 80%)
- Skills checklists including pediatric skills required
- Math test administered onsite (proctored) with remediation if needed; not pass/fail
- Completion of facility-specific modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours) including Epic test-out modules for inpatient nurses
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing; must be on blue background with no hats or headwear
- Meal waiver agreement available but not required for candidates signing on or after 1/1/2026
- Scheduling and time off policies are strict; only pre-approved time off guaranteed
- Travelers rotate on a 6-week schedule based on start date, not calendar weeks
