Job Opportunity: EP Lab Registered Nurse

Location: Brooklyn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced EP Lab Registered Nurse for a mixed procedural unit supporting Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology (EP), and Interventional Radiology (IR). The unit includes a shared prep and recovery area. This position is day shift only with no weekend or call requirements.


Schedule

  • Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
  • No rotating shifts
  • No weekends required
  • Floating to Cath Prep/Recovery required

Unit Details

  • Average daily census: 7 patients
  • Number of rooms: 2
  • Number of beds: 12
  • Patient population: Adults
  • Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Patient diagnoses primarily include arrhythmias

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Required Clinical Skills & Competencies

  • Pre- and post-procedure care in a cath/EP/IR setting
  • Medication competencies including:
    • Antiarrhythmics
    • Antihypertensives
    • Emergency medications
    • IV vasopressors
    • Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
    • Reversal agents
    • Thrombolytics
  • IV therapy skills:
    • Blood product administration
    • Implanted ports care and maintenance
    • IV infusion pumps
    • PICC line care and maintenance
    • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Professional knowledge and skills:
    • ACT (Activated Clotting Time)
    • Cardioversion
    • Circulate procedures
    • End-tidal CO2 monitoring
    • Infection prevention
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Isolation precautions
    • Monitoring procedural sedation
    • Obtaining 12 Lead EKG/ECG
    • Pressure ulcer assessment and prevention
    • Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale
    • Sheath removal and monitoring
    • Topical hemostasis (e.g., D-Stat, Chito-Seal, Syvek Patch)
    • Vascular closure systems (e.g., Perclose, StarClose)

Experience Requirements

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Minimum 2 years of Electrophysiology Lab experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with Epic documentation system
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

  • Cath Lab training preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Orientation duration: 11.5 hours
  • Scrubs provided

Technology & Systems

  • Medication management system: Omnicell
  • Documentation system: EPIC
  • Communication framework: SBAR

Provider Support & Coverage

  • Interpretation services available

  • Provider coverage includes NP or PA and cardiologist (not in-house 24/7)

Required Background & Compliance Checks

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search)
  • Education verification confirming nursing degree
  • State license verification (New York RN license required)
  • Various federal and state exclusion and sanction checks
  • Drug screening per standard requirements
  • Physical exam and immunizations/vaccinations including:
    • TDAP (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccinations as needed
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Fit mask (N95) test within 1 year
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually

Required Training & Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (Relias)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (pass/fail, with remediation process)
  • Core training modules (Parts I, II, III) annually via Relias
  • OSHA mandatory training annually
  • Harassment prevention training certificate (New York specific)
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/medications as applicable

Documentation & Facility Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (color, plain background, recent) required within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Various signed agreements including privacy, confidentiality, drug-free workplace, intellectual property, and code of conduct
  • New employee onboarding and continued education modules to be completed within 30 days of start
  • References: Two manager/supervisor references required (charge nurse references generally not accepted)
  • Employment application and work history verification (7 years) required
