Medical Surgical Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN)
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5 for days, nights, and weekends
- Average Daily Census: 21 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: May float within scope to other Med Surg and similar units as needed
- Scheduling: Typically can schedule 3 consecutive shifts; block scheduling not available
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
- On-call: Not required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
- Magnet-designated facility
- Total staffed beds: 562
- Charting system: Cerner
- Dress code: Any solid color scrubs
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and national databases within 30 days of start
- State-specific searches required within 30 days of start (Illinois Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, State Police registries)
- Primary source verification of RN license and certifications
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good physical and mental health, ability to perform job functions without restrictions
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- Photo for badge required before start
- Review and sign facility code of conduct and parking permit forms within 7 days of contract signing
- References: Two professional references required for clinical travel candidates
Additional Notes
- Candidates may be called off up to 36 hours during the 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
- Floating to other units is expected as needed within scope of practice
- No on-call shifts required
- Candidates must have no more than 5 days of return-to-office (RTO) restrictions ideally
