Registered Nurse - Women's Care Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Clearlake, California
Facility: Adventist Health Clear Lake
Hospital System: Adventist Health West


Job Summary

  • Night Shift: 1800 - 0630, 36 hours per week
  • Focus on labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care (infants up to 28 days)
  • Responsible for supervising and coordinating care with other disciplines
  • Care for women from childbearing through geriatric years

Required Experience & Education

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • At least 1 year of labor and delivery experience
  • Nursery experience (any level) and postpartum experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license in California
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA required)
  • AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification (must be obtained within 6 months of employment and renewed every 2 years)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required within 6 months and renewed every 2 years
  • Hospital conscious sedation certification required within 6 months and renewed every 2 years
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred
  • Familiarity with crash cart and emergency procedures

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, standing, talking, hearing, and repetitive hand motions
  • Frequent patient transfers including lifting, pulling, pushing (must be able to lift 50 pounds)
  • Frequent pushing of wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds
  • Vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids (Category 1 exposure risk)
  • Use of computer, telephone, printer, photocopier, and fax machine

Job Responsibilities

  • Administer and control narcotics and medications
  • Administer IV fluids per policy
  • Provide age-appropriate care for infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team
  • Develop individualized care plans and prioritize nursing actions
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust care as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of unit and patient care areas
  • Provide patient and family education
  • Lead and delegate tasks to other healthcare team members
  • Handle emergency situations professionally and promptly
  • Maintain all required competencies, licenses, and certifications on time

Compliance & Organizational Requirements

  • Must comply with all HIPAA and confidentiality regulations
  • Required vaccinations including measles, mumps, flu (seasonal), COVID-19 (with medical/religious exemptions considered)
  • Background check covering last 7 years required
  • Drug testing required within 30 days before start
  • Physical exam required within 90 days of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95 preferred) required; cannot be completed onsite at this facility
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • Annual competency exams and certifications required (medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, conscious sedation, etc.)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist and clinical references verification required

Additional Notes

  • This position provides labor, delivery, and recovery (LDR) services; OB triage included if performed by staff in this department
  • Postpartum infant care and ambulatory birthing centers are excluded
