Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical/Telemetry

Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 8 weeks (approximately 2 months)
Shift: Days


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Care for patient populations including Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, and Telemetry.
  • Positions available on Medical Surgical Unit and Telemetry Unit.
  • Support unit preparation for Epic EMR go-live; Cerner and Epic EMR experience required.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; a basic dysrhythmia test will be administered during the first week and must be passed to work in the Emergency Department.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • May be placed on call occasionally during low census periods; must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience
  • Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Cerner EMR
  • Experience with Epic EMR

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccination (declination accepted).
  • MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B immunizations or positive titers (boosters or declinations accepted).
  • Tdap valid within 10 years (declinations accepted).
  • Negative TB test within the past year or appropriate documentation if history of positive test.
  • Fit test for approved respirators completed prior to start.
  • Health statement/physician statement within the last 12 months.
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (9-panel, THC not required).
  • Background check including SS trace and county search for last 7 years.
  • Adult and Child Abuse clearance as per state requirements.
  • Education verification through third party.
  • Professional references (2 required, including 1 supervisor).
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months.
  • Driver’s license or state ID current and valid throughout assignment.
  • I-9 attestation completed.
  • Color vision test.
  • OSHA questionnaire completed by candidate.
  • Resume or professional profile submitted.
  • Contract employee data sheet completed.
  • Various professional verifications and screenings completed within 30 days of start.

Additional Information

  • This is a travel assignment with a fixed start date of May 18, 2026, and end date of July 12, 2026.
  • Extension may be offered based on unit needs.
  • Traveler will not be part of regular call rotation but may be called in occasionally.

This job requires strong clinical skills in medical/surgical and telemetry nursing, EMR proficiency, and the ability to quickly adapt to new technology and unit protocols.
