Registered Nurse - Long Term Care
Location: Wrangell, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Coordinates and provides professional nursing care for residents of various ages in a long-term care setting. Participates in patient and family teaching, collaborates with healthcare team members, and maintains standards for professional nursing practice. Responsible for clinical decision-making, delegation, supervision, and emergency response during shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with multisystem diseases and treatment complications.
- Prioritize care based on acuity and patient preference; anticipate and respond to emergencies and changes in patient status.
- Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately.
- Carry out medical and nursing care plans; coordinate care activities with physicians and healthcare team.
- Provide individualized, goal-oriented nursing care based on scientific principles and nursing process.
- Educate patients, families, and staff; participate in care conferences and develop educational programs.
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, including admission assessments and ongoing evaluations.
- Document assessments, care plans, progress notes, and patient responses accurately.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
- Provide leadership as charge nurse when required, including delegation and supervision of CNAs, LPNs, and ward clerks.
- Participate in staff meetings, unit goal setting, and comply with scheduling and dress code policies.
- Comply with mandatory state reporting guidelines and complete all required training and competency checks.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Long Term Care, including experience within the last year
- Current certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advanced Trauma Training (ATT)
- Experience in charge nurse roles with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills
- Familiarity and competence with mandatory state reporting guidelines and associated time requirements
Additional Information
- This position does not provide housing or travel reimbursement.
- Willingness to serve as charge nurse in absence of Director of Nursing.
- Strong communication, leadership, and teaching skills are essential.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound judgments in emergency situations.
