Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU 4E (4th Floor East Wing)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (06:30 AM – 06:30 PM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36


Unit & Patient Population

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU), 4th Floor East Wing
  • 55 beds
  • Adult patients primarily; occasional patients 15 years or older
  • Common diagnoses: CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, weakness
  • RN-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
  • Nursing assistant support and charge nurse available
  • Additional support staff: Educator, Care Managers, Social Workers, Dieticians, Physical and Occupational Therapists

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Current RN license required
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Telemetry competency required
  • Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation (skills learned)
  • Driver’s license required at time of application to verify distance compliance (must live outside a 50-mile radius)
  • Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific health system within the 50-mile radius
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination

Work Environment & Equipment

  • EMR system: EPIC
  • IV pumps: Alaris
  • Specialty equipment: Mechanical lifts available in every other room
  • Common drips/medications: PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, insulin
  • Scrubs: Navy blue for RNs; CNA scrubs are ceil blue

Additional Information

  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Float assignments expected, ideally to Medical-Surgical areas, based on highest need
  • Unit challenges include staffing shortages
  • Focus on patient experience through hourly rounding and responsiveness
  • Successful nurses on this unit are those who can effectively manage daily unit operations and work collaboratively within a close-knit team
