PACU RN Opportunity - Freeport, Illinois

Position Details

• Specialty: PACU RN
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Location: Freeport, Illinois
• Department: PACU (Phase 1 and Phase 2)
• Unit Size: 5 beds
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1-2:1
• Shift Length: 9 or 10 hour shifts, rotating to cover late discharges
• Scheduling: Schedule set 4 weeks in advance for 6 weeks, no self-scheduling
• Call Requirements:

  • Weeknight: Average 1 per week
  • Weekend: Average 1 every 5-6 weekends
  • Holiday: Call coverage with 30-minute response time
• Floating: Yes, PACU RNs cover pre-op holding room duties

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Illinois RN License required
• BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications required

Experience Requirements

• Preferred 2-5 years of PACU experience (strong candidates with less experience may be considered)
• Previous travel experience preferred (not explicitly required)

Clinical Information

• Common Cases: General surgery, orthopedic totals and minor cases, ENT, urology, gynecology, C-section, podiatry
• Patient Care: Phase 1 in PACU covered by PACU staff and travelers; Phase 2 in ACU for pre-op outpatient
• Equipment: Vents (most patients extubated before PACU), CPAP/BiPAP
• ICU Patients: Occasionally recover in PACU; intubated patients transported back to ICU post-op
• Nursing Duties: RNs read cardiac strips; no nurse aides on unit
• EMR System: Meditech
• Charge Nurse: OR Charge RN; RNs self-manage assignments

Orientation & Uniform

• Department-specific orientation: 1-2 weeks with preceptor
• Scrubs provided
