Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - ER Float MS

Location: Wahoo, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work primarily on a med/surg floor with acutely ill patients and patients in swing beds at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH).
• Float between Med/Surg and ER as needed; ER experience and certifications are a plus.
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3 depending on census.
• No OB services.
• MD on call at night for hospital and ED.
• Must have strong critical thinking skills and be a team player.
• Supportive staff and community environment.

Schedule & Shifts

• Shifts: 7a-7p and 7p-7a.
• Schedule created by manager; block scheduling preferred but not guaranteed.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW).
• Holidays: Work 1-2 holidays during holiday season as needed.
• Total hours: Approximately 36 hours per week.

Patient Population & Environment

• Rural ER with common cases including farm accidents, orthopedic injuries, kidney stones, flu, etc.
• No ventilator management; stabilize and transfer patients requiring vents.
• Cardiac monitors (Mindray) used; must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips.
• No dedicated monitor tech; nurses manage telemetry.
• Respiratory Therapy available M-F 6:45am-4pm; nursing covers treatments after hours and weekends, including BiPAP and CPAP setup.
• Pharmacy available M-F 7am-4:30pm; remote pharmacy after hours and weekends, nurses may need to mix medications after hours.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience required.
• Critical Access Hospital experience required.
• ACLS and BLS certifications required.
• PALS and TNCC certifications preferred.
• Ability to float between ER and Med/Surg units.
• Must be able to read telemetry strips and manage drips.
• No visible tattoos or piercings allowed.

Additional Information

• EMR system: Healthland.
• Medication dispensing system: Omnicell.
• IV pumps: Plum (no IV team).
• Charge nurse role available on day shift only.
• Nurse aides available for unit clerk duties during shifts.
• Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage; rotating physicians on call nights and weekends.

Prior Travel Experience

• Previous travel experience preferred but not required.
