Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Adult ICU Pods
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Specialty: Adult ICU Pods (SICU/MICU/Trauma ICU)
Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks minimum (facility will not consider contracts shorter than 13 weeks)
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7 AM – 7 PM)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with schedulers having the right to rebalance the schedule
- Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks (TICU: 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks)
- Holiday Requirement: Work with core staff rotation
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit Size: 40 beds per unit, 120 beds total (SICU, MICU, Trauma ICU)
- Hospital Size: 600+ bed teaching hospital
- Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma Center
- Teaching Hospital: Yes, nursing students present
- Common Diagnoses & Procedures:
- MICU: Sepsis, GI Bleed, DKA, RotaProne Therapy, Heat Stroke, Overdose (most intubated)
- SICU: Post-op vented patients, lung/liver/kidney transplants, severe back surgeries, Whipple procedures
- TICU: Trauma patients including MVAs, gunshot wounds, closed head injuries, orthopedic trauma
- Bedside Procedures: Bronchoscopy, tracheostomy care, hemodialysis catheter placements
Required Experience & Skills
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
- Facility Experience: Must have experience in a 600+ bed teaching facility
- Trauma Experience: Level 1 Trauma experience required
- EMR: Cerner experience required
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required
- Skills:
- RNs must be competent in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass/fail on Day 1)
- RNs required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- Experience with common titratable and set rate drips
- Equipment Familiarity: Ventilators including Cervo I, Jets, Oscillators; CPAP, BiPAP
- Floating: ICU travelers must float among all ICU areas and MedSurg/Telemetry units; may float to another campus
Orientation & Onboarding
- Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor
- Onboarding: Must complete all onboarding requirements by Wednesday 1 PM CST before start date
- Day 1: Pass/fail SIMs Lab and additional pass/fail exam (details provided during orientation)
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance; maximum 2 attempts allowed; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region

- Prior Travel Experience: Previous travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU roles (not explicitly stated for this ICU role)
