Job Summary

Provide optimal patient care using nursing knowledge and skills within the nursing process. Accountable for individualized patient outcomes over an entire episode of care. Deliver comprehensive nursing services to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including their families/caregivers. Coordinate care with other professionals as needed.

Unit Description

• 38-bed Medical Surgical unit specializing in Orthopedics and Neurosurgery
• Patient types include total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder, ankles), ortho-spine surgeries, elective cervical, lumbar, and thoracic surgeries, fractures, traumas, limb preservation, wound I&D, and medical overflow patients (including legal holds)
• Staffing ratio: 1 RN to 5-6 patients; 1 CNA to 12-15 patients

Shift & Schedule

• 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Days)
• 36 guaranteed hours weekly
• No call requirements
• May be required to float within competency level
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Eve + Day = 1 holiday)
• May need to work major holidays and pick up one additional shift during the schedule period
• Schedule may include weekends, holidays, and some call shifts
• Employer may cancel shifts with 48 hours’ notice due to low census

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nevada
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Work Environment

• Extremely busy, fast-paced Level 2 trauma center environment
• Serves a large regional area with high patient volume
• Patient population includes adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Requires intensive continuous mental effort for safe patient care and decision-making

Additional Information

• Travelers may be required to float to other units as needed within their competency
• The unit cares for complex orthopedic and neurosurgical patients with a variety of surgical and medical needs

This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity, specialized ortho-spine medical surgical unit within a Level 2 trauma center environment.
