Registered Nurse – Cardiac Medical ICU
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide direct patient care in a Cardiac Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting, primarily on night shifts. Care for critically ill patients with cardiac and medical conditions, including post-open heart surgery recovery. Utilize nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while coordinating with ancillary departments.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Nights (19:00 - 07:30)
- Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (flexible, must be indicated on submission)
- Weekend Hours: Every other weekend as required
- Call: None
- Orientation: Night shift orientation occurs on day shift; availability for full week orientation required

Patient Population
- Cardiac patients including arrhythmias, STEMI, post cardiac arrest
- Medical ICU patients with sepsis, respiratory failure (pneumonia, COVID, ARDS), GI bleed, DKA, PE, renal and liver failure, pancreatitis, overdose, suicidal ideations, CIWA
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in recovering open heart surgery patients directly from the OR in a CVICU setting
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Additional Requirements
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required (November 1 – April 1)
- May be floated to other stepdown units depending on staffing needs
- Must adhere to dress code: black scrubs only; no hats, non-approved jackets/sweatshirts, or AirPods
Physical and Mental Demands
- Frequent standing and walking
- Bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
- Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
- Exposure to blood and body fluids

- Provide care consistent with nursing standards and state Nurse Practice Act
- Coordinate care with other departments
