Unit & Facility Overview

• Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
• Facility: Large hospital with a broad range of specialties including cardiology, cancer care, bone marrow transplants, emergency medicine, neurosciences, maternity care, gynecology, and orthopedics.
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Shift Options: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend Schedule: Rotating
• Call Requirements: None
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
• Floating: All travelers are required to float within the hospital as per facility policy

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) in CVICU
• Minimum ICU Experience: 2 years (highest required years of experience)
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Certification (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• Licensure: Active Texas RN License required (temporary license accepted)

Required Skills

• Hemodynamic monitoring (including swan lines, arterial lines)
• Ventilator management
• Strong critical thinking skills
• ICU experience of 2 years or more

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
• Exposure to CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
• Experience with Meditech charting and order entry

Procedures Commonly Performed on Unit

• Post Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) care
• Post Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) care
• Post cardiac catheterization with various cardiac support devices such as IABP, Impella, ECMO

Dress Code & Appearance Guidelines

• Scrubs: Navy scrub top and pants; navy or white scrub jacket
• Nails: Clean and healthy
• Hair: Neat, clean, no extreme styles or colors
• Facial Hair: Clean and neatly trimmed beards, mustaches, and sideburns
• Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; uncovered tattoos addressed individually
• Piercings: Only ear piercings allowed; other visible piercings prohibited

Additional Notes

• Punctuality is important; clock-in time is 6:38 AM/PM, and arriving after 6:45 is considered tardy
• Badge in and out for each shift
• Full 30-minute lunch break required
