Travel RN Opportunity – Pediatric Emergency Department

Location: San Antonio, Texas
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Emergency Room (ER)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Facility Overview

  • Pediatric Emergency Department at a dedicated children’s hospital
  • 36 beds plus 2 trauma rooms
  • Patient ratio approximately 3:1
  • Fast-paced environment, seeing 200-250 patients daily during peak season
  • Team-oriented culture with experienced staff
  • Unit uses Meditech documentation system
  • Standard pediatric ER equipment

Shift Details

  • Shifts available: 7A-7:30P, 7P-7:30A, 1P-1:30A, 3P-3:30A
  • 12-hour shifts, rotating weekends
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week
  • No call requirements
  • Floating required (to ED holds or inpatient units as needed)

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Active Texas RN license (temporary licenses no longer accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Emergency Department experience (higher of conflicting requirements)
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Experience working in a pediatric environment
  • Must be willing and able to float per hospital policy

Preferred Skills

  • Leadership experience (Charge Nurse or Nursing Educator roles)
  • Experience with Meditech electronic health records
  • Skilled in pediatric patient care and interventions

Procedures Commonly Performed

  • IV insertions
  • In-and-out catheterizations
  • Medication reconciliation

Dress Code & Appearance Guidelines

  • Scrubs: Navy color for RNs; undershirts and jackets in white, navy, or black only
  • No hooded jackets or sweaters allowed
  • No artificial nails or nail polish
  • Hair must be off shoulders and natural color
  • Tattoos should be covered when possible; uncovered body art addressed individually
  • Visible piercings limited to ears only

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with mixed adult and pediatric ER experience are encouraged to apply, but pediatric ED experience is preferred
  • The unit values hardworking, self-motivated individuals passionate about high-quality pediatric care and service excellence
