Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Location: Smyrna, Tennessee

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: Women’s Services
• Beds: 9 Labor & Delivery, 3 swing rooms, 2 ORs, 3 bed OBED
• Patient Ratios: 1-2
• Staffing: Unit secretary and scrub tech available; dedicated CRNA and midwife in-house 24/7; OBGYN on call
• Documentation Systems: CPN and Meditech
• Scheduling: 4 weekend shifts per month required
• Floating Policy: May float to mother/baby or outside department for tasks
• Patient Experience Goal: Maintain above 75% satisfaction

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring, and AWHONN

Skills & Procedures

• Advanced skills such as Spinning Babies and STABLE are helpful
• Procedures performed on unit include: circulating in OR, intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC), fetal scalp electrode (FSE), magnesium sulfate administration, postpartum hemorrhage management (JADA system), nitrous oxide use

• Laborist team model with 24/7 midwives and dedicated CRNA; OB on call
• Personalized birth experiences tailored to patient needs and preferences
• Couplet care in postpartum unit to keep newborns bedside and promote breastfeeding; donor milk available if needed
• 8-bed Level 2 NICU with Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) dedicated 24/7
• NNP available for all high-risk deliveries

Dress Code

• Uniform: Hot pink and black; black bottoms acceptable but hot pink tops preferred
