Wound Ostomy Nurse (RN) - Local Contract

Location: Newport Beach, California
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing - Local Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Hours: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
Work Setting: Inpatient and outpatient wound and ostomy care

Job Summary

• Serve as the clinical resource for patients and staff regarding ostomy, continence disorders, acute and chronic wounds, skin breakdown, and fistulae.
• Provide direct wound and ostomy care, including patient and family education pre- and post-operatively.
• Assist healthcare team with evaluation of skin and wound products and equipment.
• Deliver educational programs, in-services, and bedside teaching for nursing staff.
• Stay current with advances in wound and skin care assessments, treatments, and prevention.
• Assess patients with pressure injuries staged at 3 or above and those with hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPI), ensuring proper reporting.
• Evaluate hospital practices to reduce HAPIs.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in California.
• Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) certification is required.
• Minimum of 4 years of clinical nursing experience.
• Strong knowledge of infection control and patient safety protocols.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle technology and equipment relevant to wound and ostomy care.
• Must be a licensed and insured driver in good standing for local travel requirements.
• Demonstrated initiative, interpersonal skills, and ability to maintain trust and accountability in professional relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience specifically in wound and ostomy care.
• Ability to demonstrate innovation and ensure customer satisfaction.

Additional Information

• Remote work is not available.
• Local travel within the area is required.
