Job Summary

Perform routine and advanced professional and technical work in a histology laboratory, including handling tissue specimens, assisting in gross dissection, processing tissue for microscopic examination, embedding and sectioning tissue, and performing routine and special staining techniques including immunohistochemistry.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Receive and label tissue specimens from clinical services and autopsy suite, assigning accession numbers.
  • Place specimens in appropriate fixation materials.
  • Assist pathologists with gross dissection and submission of tissue for histology examination.
  • Process tissue sections through preservation and fixation phases.
  • Embed, section, and mount tissue on slides for examination.
  • Perform routine and special staining techniques, including immunohistochemistry and advanced methods.
  • Participate in quality assurance and statistical data collection.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Histology Technologist, with experience within the last year.

The unit I was on was mostly made up of travel nurses, which they seem the hire some of the laziest people I’ve ever met. There is a reason they offer such a high pay rate because this place is horrible.
