Job Opportunity: Scrub/Surgical Tech
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Clinical - Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Works under the supervision of the surgeon. Facilitates a safe, effective, and orderly operating room to maximize patient safety.
Essential Duties
- Problem-solve related to the surgical procedure being performed
- Maintain current knowledge of equipment, procedures, and supplies
- Adhere to proper surgical aseptic techniques and safety protocols
- Perform instrument counts before and during procedures (sponges, needles, instruments)
- Prepare and secure all supplies and instruments required for surgery
- Ensure sterile field preparation and maintenance in the OR
- Prepare patient skin for surgical treatment
- Position and reposition patients during surgery
- Monitor patients during surgery
- Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase
- Perform scrub functions
- Handle and route specimens correctly
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy/physiology and intraoperative medications
- Stay current with developments through seminars, workshops, and publications
- Follow all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures
- Floating between departments or local locations within 20 miles is required
Required Qualifications
- Surgical Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience
- Surgical Technician experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross
- High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Surgical Technician training program
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Orthopedics, ENT, and/or Vascular surgery
- Epic system experience preferred but not required (training available onsite)
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery certification NCCT
