Job Summary
The Surgical Technician assists the healthcare team during the intra-operative period by preparing and handling surgical instruments and equipment, and assisting the surgeon throughout the procedure. This role requires knowledge of aseptic technique, medical terminology, and the metric system, with the ability to prioritize and respond immediately in urgent or emergency situations. Patient population served ranges from neonate through geriatric.
Responsibilities
- Maintain aseptic technique during surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes.
- Care for, prepare, handle, and maintain surgical instrumentation.
- Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts consistently according to policy.
- Adhere to professional standards of practice.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Recent Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Day shift, 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
- Includes one weekend 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM call shift.
- Six 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM call shifts.
- Two 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM overnight call shifts.
- Approximately 36 hours per week.
Specialty Areas
Experience or knowledge in orthopedic, hand, podiatry, oncology, general, and gynecological surgical procedures is relevant.
