Registered Nurse (RN) – Float / Med Surg / Telemetry / Progressive Care Unit (PCU) (Nights)

Job Overview
- Float nurse position with no home unit; primary assignment to Med Surg with required floating to Behavioral Health (BH), Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and some post-procedural areas as needed.
- Patient ratio approximately 1:6 on a 130-bed unit.
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and drips including heparin, insulin, lasix, amiodarone, diltiazem, and digoxin required.
- Must be able to confidently read EKG/ECG and perform all telemetry-related duties including rhythm strips and dysrhythmia interpretation.
- Electronic Medical Record system used: EPIC.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg and Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Stepdown settings.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
- Certification in Management of Aggressive Behavior (MAB).
- Certification in Safe and Effective Management of Aggressive Behavior (SAMA).
- Proficiency with the EPIC Electronic Medical Record system.
Preferred Qualifications
- De-escalation certificate (SAMA, MAB, MOAB, CPI) – can be obtained during onboarding.
- NIH Stroke Scale certificate – can be obtained during onboarding.
- Professional references or performance evaluations from charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, or executive leadership within the last 24 months.
Additional Information
- First-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of nursing experience; hospital or medical center experience prioritized.
- Orientation scheduled prior to start date.
- Contractor required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
- Overtime is billable after 40 hours per week.
- On-call and charge/precept pay available.
- Must comply with employee separation policy restricting travel assignments within the same market if previously employed in certain capacities within the last 12 months.
- Minimum 50-mile radius rule applies; local candidates not considered.
Summary
This is a temporary night shift RN position requiring a highly flexible nurse comfortable floating across multiple units with strong telemetry and med-surg skills. The role demands solid experience with cardiac drips and EKG interpretation, along with certifications in ACLS and BLS. Candidates must be prepared to work some holidays and meet orientation and onboarding requirements.
