Registered Nurse - PCU Float

Job Summary

• Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
• Float required to all Medical-Surgical (MS), MS/Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) units within the hospital
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • PCU: 1:4-5
  • MS, MS Telemetry: 1:5-6
• Unit systems used: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum: 7 days
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (approximately 6 weekends in a 13-week contract)
• Floating: Required
• Call: None
• Holiday work expectations:

  • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
  • If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
  • If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
• Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
• Compliance with orientation and credentialing required to start on time; delays may result in a 2-week pushback

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Experience in Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) nursing
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Requirements

• Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including education verification
• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if history of positive TB)
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer or signed declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
• Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
• Verification of recent work history and 2 clinical references required

Work Environment & Expectations

• Float between multiple units (MS, MS Telemetry, PCU)
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced hospital setting with adult and geriatric patients
• Adherence to dress and professional appearance policies required
• Must review and sign code of conduct prior to start
• Orientation includes non-billable hours based on contract length

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience who is comfortable floating across multiple adult care units and working in a hospital environment using Epic. Compliance with certifications, competencies, and health requirements is mandatory.
