Job Opportunity: Clinical Instructor Cardiac Sonographer

Location: Evanston, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Seeking a Clinical Instructor Cardiac Sonographer to support education partnerships, onboarding, competency validation, and quality improvement initiatives. This role is ideal for a sonographer interested in leadership and teaching growth.

  • Shift: 5 days per week, 8-hour day shifts
  • Floating required: Will be expected to float to other facilities within the health system
  • Strong acute-care hospital background preferred

Required Skills & Experience

  • Prior clinical education, precepting, or lead/charge sonographer experience
  • Pediatric and adult echocardiography experience
  • Experience mentoring and training staff and students
  • Technical proficiency in:
    • Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE)
    • Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
    • Congenital heart disease imaging
    • Adult and pediatric acute care echocardiography
    • Structural heart imaging (including TAVR and Mitral Clip procedures)
    • Structural/interventional guidance scans
    • Stress echocardiography
    • Hemodynamic and Doppler assessment

Required Credentials & Certifications

  • Active Adult Echo credential (RDCS-AE or RCS)
  • Pediatric Echo credential (RDCS-PE)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Additional Required Certifications (Preferred or Required)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit/profession

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by a physician
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and/or titers for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer required)
    • Varicella
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
  • Drug testing (10 panel) within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (declinations not accepted except medical/religious exemptions)
  • Vision testing (Snellen and Ishihara Color Vision) within 1 year of start

Other Requirements

  • Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check
  • Annual federal exclusions and sanctions checks (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Facility-specific documentation and confidentiality agreements
  • Two professional references required

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer, with recent experience within the last year
  • Active credentials: RDCS-AE or RCS and RDCS-PE
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience working with both pediatric and adult patients
  • Experience in charge or lead sonographer roles
  • Precepting and mentoring experience
  • Proficiency in adult echocardiography, including transthoracic (TTE) and transesophageal (TEE) techniques
  • Proficiency in congenital heart disease imaging
  • Proficiency in adult and pediatric acute care echocardiography

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
