Job Opportunity: Infection Prevention Registered Nurse
Location: Long Beach, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Seeking an Infection Preventionist Registered Nurse to perform culture surveillance and healthcare-associated infection (HAI) identification for adult acute care, women’s and children’s hospital, and NICU populations. After training, remote work option is available.
Shift Details:
- 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts (variable day shifts)
- Office hours: 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday

- Pediatrics

- Geriatrics
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of infection control experience, including experience within the last year
- Board Certified Infection Control (CIC) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficient in identification of infection trends
- Knowledge of National Patient Safety Goals and Core Measures
- Familiarity with CMS State Operations Manual
- Experience with National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)
- Understanding of The Joint Commission standards (TJC)
- Knowledge of infections including Clostridium difficile (CDI), ESBL, Streptococcus, and MRSA screening
- Experience with antibiotic stewardship and multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in California
- Board Certified Infection Control (CIC) certification (mandatory)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA Provider, Instructor, or RQI acceptable
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA Provider, Instructor, or RQI acceptable (refer to qualification guidelines)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA Provider, Instructor, or RQI acceptable (refer to qualification guidelines)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - as applicable
- State license primary source verification required
- NURSYS verification required for RN license

Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations or titers for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B surface antibody
- Varicella
- Negative TB test (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year, updated annually
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Seasonal flu vaccination (Nov-April) or declination accepted
- COVID vaccination record preferred
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (excluding marijuana panel due to state restrictions)
Documentation & Training
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Emergency contact form required
- Background checks including 7-year search and federal exclusions
- Medication calculation competency exam required
- Color blindness testing annually
- Competency exams as per specialty requirements
- EKG competency exam for applicable units
- HIPAA education certificate required before Epic modules
- Completion of facility-specific Epic and YouLearn modules prior to or at start of assignment
- Annual internal evaluation if employed for 1 year or more
- Two professional references required
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
Additional Information
- Candidates within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible for local rate consideration.
- After initial training, remote work is possible.
- Facility policies on drug and alcohol, hand hygiene, dress and appearance must be reviewed.
