Job Opportunity: Physical Therapist - Acute Care Hospital

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: June 1st (Immediate need)
Shift: 8 days on / 40 hours per week, first shift (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Call/Weekend/Float Requirements: None

Job Description

• Provide physical therapy services in an acute care hospital setting.
• Acute care (in-hospital) experience and competencies are required.
• Accepts first-time travelers.
• Minimum 1 year of specialty experience required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Physical Therapist license in Michigan.
• Minimum of 1 year of Physical Therapist experience.
• Physical Therapist experience within the last year.
• Experience in an Acute Care setting.

Certifications & Competencies

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit.
• Other certifications as applicable based on unit assignment.
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam completed within 1 year prior to assignment start with a passing score of at least 80%.
• Competency exam in specialty completed within 1 year prior to start with a passing score of at least 80%.

Health & Background Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Negative TB test (PPD or equivalent) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required.
• Proof of immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for candidates starting after November 1.
• 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
• Annual TB questionnaire.
• Fit mask testing required if working in acute care settings.

Background Checks & Compliance

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Michigan fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions; process coordinated by compliance team.
• Education verification required (copy of highest degree or diploma).
• Professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
• Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.

Additional Requirements

• Review and sign Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy prior to start.
• Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
• Various state-specific clearances and registry checks as applicable.
• Personal or auto insurance proof required for home health roles (not applicable here).
• Some units may require additional certifications such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), or others depending on assignment.
