ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Columbus, Georgia

• Shift Details:

  • Ratio: 1:2-3 patients
  • Weekends: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Yes, within facility/scope of practice
  • Call: None
  • Holidays: Expected to work major holidays during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Georgia
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience titrating continuous infusions of sedation/pain medications, paralytic agents, and vasopressors
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Clinical Skills & Requirements

• Experience with all potential ICU diagnoses
• High volume of ventilators and arterial lines (A-lines)
• Competency in titration of continuous infusions: sedation agents, pain medications, paralytic agents, vasopressors
• Agency RNs do not care for CRRT patients unless competency on Baxter PrisMax machine is demonstrated
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds with intensivist, bedside RN, PharmD, RRT, OT/PT, dietitian, case manager, wound care
• Transport patients (e.g., to CT) alongside tech and RRT if on ventilator
• Night shift NPs handle central lines, vascular catheters, arterial lines, codes, ICU admissions

Systems & Tools

• Epic electronic health record (required)
• Pyxis medication system
• SBAR communication tool

Orientation & Compliance

• Full compliance required to start on time; delays may push start by 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
• Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length

Required Documentation & Compliance (Summary)

• Valid RN license for Georgia
• Background check completed within 30 days prior to start
• Education verification (degree related to nursing)
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (highly recommended)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
• Annual Nursys license verification
• Required competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG competency for ICU nurses
• Color blindness test (with alternative assessment if needed)
• Flu vaccine or signed declination during flu season
• Skills checklist updated within 12 months
• Two clinical references required

• Floating may include sister campus within scope of practice
• No call requirements
• Must work major holidays as outlined if they fall during assignment period
