Job Details
- Shift Length: 36 or 48 hour shifts
- Patient Population: Emergency Department with approximately 60%-80% admitted patients; many ED rooms function as "ED Holding"
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years (will consider 1.5 years); Level 1 trauma experience preferred
- Travel Experience: Strongly preferred; first-time travelers accepted if they have 2+ years Level 1 trauma experience
- Weekend Requirement: Scheduled as needed (weekend days = Sat & Sun; weekend nights = Fri, Sat & Sun)
- Floating:
- Floating to Adult PCUs expected based on staffing needs
- Floating to Pediatric ED optional
- Potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma based on Department of Emergency needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: Accepted (NM license can pend at time of submission)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: More than 7 days off requires approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48); facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form signed by a provider
- Additional Notes:
- No RQI certifications accepted
- Must have TNCC certification before submission
- NIH certification can pend until compliance document due date before start
- Currently experiencing increased admit holds
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
- BLS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
- PALS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must be completed before submission
- NIH Stroke Certification (any vendor acceptable)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - required for Behavioral Health units
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - check unit requirements
- Pass/Fail Testing: Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam (80% overall, 100% lethal arrhythmia section) required for ED and related units
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (Aya requirement)
- Competency Exam (Aya requirement)
Licensure & Background
- License: New Mexico RN license required; can pend at submission
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
- Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
- Work History: Minimum 3 years verified work experience required
- References: Two professional references within three years of hire
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Rubeola (Measles) - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Mumps - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Rubella - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B - declination, series, or titer
- Drug screen: Negative drug test within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted via facility-specific form
- Fit mask required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed)
Additional Facility Requirements
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
- UNMH Traveler Compliance Form must be completed and uploaded
- Cerner Training Attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group (test-out option available)
- Work Experience Checklist and Confidentiality Statement currently not required due to crisis credentialing
- Background Registration and Emergency Contact Form must be completed prior to start
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam remediation and retake process in place for candidates who do not pass on first attempt
