Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Seeking an experienced CVOR Registered Nurse to provide care for adult cardiac surgery, vascular, and thoracic patients with complex and high acuity needs.

Patient Population & Procedures

Cardiac:
- Cardiac surgery patients
- Aortic Aneurysm Repair
- Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR)
- Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR)
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
- ECMO
- Heart Transplant
- MAZE procedure
- LVAD/RVAD management
- Aortic Balloon/Impella Devices
Thoracic:
- VATS Wedge Resection
- VATS/Open Lobectomy
- Esophagectomy (Minimally Invasive & Transhiatal)
- Bronchoscopy
- EGD
- Mediastinal Mass Removal
- Lung Transplant
- Laparoscopic & Open Hiatal Hernia Repair
Vascular:
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)
- Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR)
- Carotid Endarterectomy
- AV Fistulas
- Femoral-distal bypass
- Femoral-femoral bypass
- Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA) bypass
- Vein stripping/ablation

Requirements

Minimum 2 years CVOR RN experience
Previous travel experience preferred
Scrub experience with a skill rating of 3 or 4
Call requirements: 2-4 weeknights and 1-2 weekends per 4-week schedule
Adult cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical experience with complex/high acuity patients

Unit Highlights

Flexible with time-off requests and scheduling; management is accommodating
Call shifts never exceed 12 hours
Weekend call is limited to either Friday & Saturday night or Saturday & Sunday daytime, preserving most of the weekend
Positive team dynamic and supportive management, especially appreciated by travelers

Vaccination & Health Requirements

Flu vaccination required starting 10/31/2025 through Winter 2026; no exemptions allowed (medical or religious)
COVID vaccinations no longer required

Certifications & Compliance

ACLS: AHA certification required (no certificates of completion or RQI cards accepted)
BLS: AHA certification required (no certificates of completion or RQI cards accepted)
PALS: Required only for specific pediatric units (not required for this CVOR role)
NRP: Required as applicable
Pass/fail competency testing (EKG/Medication) required for ICU units including CVICU
State nursing license verification and NURSYS verification required
Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG clearance required
Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant screens not accepted)

Documentation & Orientation

Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
Fit mask test within 1 year of start (N95 masks accepted)
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive, must have clear chest X-ray within 5 years and complete annual TB questionnaire
Required to review and sign facility-specific confidentiality, code of conduct, conflict of interest, sexual harassment, and cornerstone module attestations prior to start
Orientation includes essential paperwork to be completed and submitted within 3 weeks of start date to avoid removal from assignment

References & Evaluations

Two recent professional references required (from managers/supervisors; charge RN references not accepted)
Facility will complete performance evaluation during assignment
