Dietitian (Pediatric) - Travel/Contract

Location: Sacramento, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
Contract Length: 26 weeks


Job Description

  • Pediatric Dietitian role with floating responsibilities.
  • Weekend shifts generally rotate with inpatient adult team every 2 months or as needed.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) license in California.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Knowledge and experience with enteral nutrition and total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
  • Experience in adult outpatient/clinic nutrition and acute myocardial infarction (MI) care.
  • Familiarity with management of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
  • Experience managing abdominal wounds and surgeries, as well as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Understanding of pressor use and its effects on gastrointestinal functioning.
  • Experience with dialysis, hemodialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
  • Ability to manage nutrition therapy complications.
  • Experience working with patients experiencing failure to thrive and morbid obesity.

Skills and Clinical Competencies

  • Experience with enteral and parenteral nutrition, including total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
  • Knowledge of adult outpatient/clinic nutrition and acute myocardial infarction (MI) care.
  • Management of complex conditions such as:
    • Diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, hypoglycemia
    • Heart failure, elevated cholesterol/triglycerides
    • Abdominal wounds and surgeries, chronic diarrhea, hyperemesis, IBS
    • Cirrhosis, dialysis/hemodialysis/CRRT, acute and chronic kidney disease
    • Use and effects of pressors on GI functioning
    • Blood glucose/A1C monitoring, lipid panels
    • Medication impacts including diuretics, immunosuppressants, insulin, laxatives, steroids
    • Dysphagia, aspiration safety, appetite stimulants
    • Fluid balance, nutrition therapy complications, therapeutic diet orders
    • Cachexia, cancer, chronic wounds, failure to thrive, malabsorption syndromes, marasmus, metabolic demands, morbid obesity, nutrient deficiencies
    • Nutrition assessments and reassessments, Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE)
    • Protein calorie malnutrition, refeeding syndrome
  • Acute care hospital and ICU experience preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific orientation modules and training prior to start.
  • Must complete signed confidentiality statement and HIPAA training before starting.
  • Badge pickup required during business hours prior to orientation.
  • Employment application covering last 3 years with documentation of any gaps over 6 months.
  • Two clinical references required, including one from most recent employer or within last 6 months.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams required prior to start.
  • Compliance with facility policies including wage benefit parity form and other internal documentation.

  • First-time travel healthcare workers are accepted for this position.
  • Floating between pediatric and adult inpatient teams may be required.
