Antepartum Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Albuquerque, New Mexico


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Women's Special Care – Antepartum RN
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours; 19:00 to 7:30)
  • Hours: 36 hours per week (36 or 48-hour shifts available)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5 on weekdays, 1:4 on weekends
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum (new contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks)
  • Locals: Not accepted within 100 miles
  • Floating: Required to float per unit needs, primarily to main PCU and other PCUs including ED and PACU
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, per unit needs
  • On-call: No
  • Block Schedule: Not guaranteed
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week; facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
  • Return-to-Office Restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Experience & Skills

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in New Mexico
  • Labor and Delivery experience (minimum 1 year), with experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • AWHONN certification
  • Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Patient Diagnoses You Will Encounter

  • Gynecology/Urogynecology
  • Maternal complications
  • Post-op general surgery
  • Urinary tract infections/Pyelonephritis
  • Cardiac monitored antepartum/postpartum patients
  • Basic cardiac, neurological, orthopedic conditions
  • Respiratory illnesses
  • Established tracheostomy care (not new)
  • Cellulitis and wound infections (with or without wound vac)
  • Breast surgery
  • Gynecologic oncology (no active chemotherapy)
  • Plastic surgery
  • Feeding and nasogastric tubes
  • Pediatrics (age 12 and older)
  • Dialysis patients
  • CIWA/COWS (withdrawal management)
  • Chest tubes
  • Para/quadriplegia
  • Total care patients
  • Patients requiring high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (any vendor accepted)
  • AWHONN Advanced OR Intermediate (one required, not both)
  • FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam (must score ≥80%, 100% on lethal arrhythmia section)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – if applicable
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) – if applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) as per facility requirements

Licensure & Documentation

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for New Mexico (pending license accepted)
  • Must bring original New Mexico license with 3D seal onsite
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
  • Social Security card required
  • Complete employment application with at least 3 years of work history
  • Two professional references within the last 3 years
  • Work history verification for 3 years required

Background & Health Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within one year of start
  • Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless done within past 12 months)
  • Education verification or diploma/transcript if third-party verification unavailable
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
  • Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (including TB questionnaire annually)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks required; PAPR accommodation if needed)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Flu vaccine (year-round, with exemptions accepted)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
    • Hepatitis B – series, titer, or declination accepted
  • COVID vaccine: optional; facility reports vaccination status

  • Level I Trauma Center, Children’s Hospital, Teaching Hospital
  • Short-term, acute care facility with 554 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Free parking available
  • No public transportation nearby; candidates must have reliable transportation

Additional Notes

  • New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
  • Travelers must take a 6-month break after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of cumulative work, whichever comes first
  • Overtime paid after 48 hours worked (for contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025)
