Certified Surgical First Assistant - Travel/Contract

Location: Newport News, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Work in a Level II Trauma Center with 15 operating rooms.
• Surgical specialties include Neuro, General/Trauma, Robotics, Orthopedics, ENT, Vascular, Gynecology, GI, and Plastics.
• Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM).

Required Qualifications

• Valid Surgical First Assistant license in Virginia.
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential.
• Minimum 1 year of Surgical First Assistant experience within the last year.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Compliance and Documentation

• Must complete facility-specific documents prior to start, including:

  • Confidentiality Agreement
  • Dress Code Policy
  • Safety Brochure
  • Scrub Colors Acknowledgement
  • Hand Washing Hygiene Policy (review only)
  • Drug-Free Policy
• Photo for badge must meet specific professional standards (recent, clear, neutral background, no hats unless religious, no glasses glare).
• Virginia State Police Check fingerprint results may be required depending on placement.
• E-Verify or attestation required.

Competencies and Testing

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable, to be completed within one year of start date.
• Pass/fail testing (e.g., EKG/medication) administered during orientation; multiple attempts allowed.
• Annual skills checklist update required.

References and Work History

• Two professional references required.
• Application/resume required.
