Job Opportunity: Outpatient Clinic Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Richmond, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in an outpatient urology clinic setting.
  • Perform and have experience with:
    • Cystoscopies
    • Vasectomies
    • Nurse visits
    • Suprapubic and Foley catheter changes
    • Bladder installations
    • Bladder scanning and post-void residual (PVR) measurements
  • Must have performed urodynamics tests (not just assisted).

Schedule

  • Day shift
  • 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
  • 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia (permanent license required; temporary licenses not accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in an outpatient clinic setting, including at least some experience within the last year
  • Experience specifically in urology nursing within an outpatient clinic environment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during work hours
  • Nursys verification required

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS certification (AHA only).
  • Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Abuse reporting competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, and neglect/exploitation of vulnerable adults.
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and exams (e.g., pharmacology exam, point of care testing, airborne precaution mask fitting).

Background & Screening Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
    • All states lived/worked in past 7 years
    • State of permanent residence
    • Virginia Statewide Repository Search
    • Sex offender registry
    • Education verification
  • E-Verify compliance.
  • Virginia State Police fingerprint-based national criminal background check required for certain units; results may pend but proof of submission must be on file.
  • Central Registry Search (CPS) required for all candidates; must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing. Results may pend but proof of submission must be on file.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination.
  • Negative TB test (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days of start or two PPDs including one within 30 days of start). Chest X-ray required if PPD positive.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Titers required for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella; booster required if low titer.
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination.
  • Drug screening within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum; instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for the flu season (10/1–5/31). Declinations not accepted without exemption documentation.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required.
  • Complete application/resume required.
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually.

Notes

  • Local candidates are allowed at the same rate as travelers.
  • No onsite certification renewals; renewals must be scheduled prior to contract start.
  • Candidates must bring certain personal items to orientation (mask, non-wireless headphones, laptop or cell phone if available).
  • Performance evaluations will be completed at the end of the assignment, not required prior to start.

This position is ideal for experienced outpatient urology RNs seeking a travel contract with a defined 13-week assignment on a day shift schedule.
