Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:15 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Patient-to-nurse ratios regulated at 1:2, can increase to 1:3 depending on patient acuity.
- Fresh cardiac open heart patients require a 1:1 ratio.
- Floating assignments include CCU/CTICU, ICU, and stepdown units.
- Work schedule includes every other weekend.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Scrubs color: Royal Blue.
- Open to first-time travel nurses.
- Experience required with fresh open heart surgical patients, including CABG, intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella, TAVR, and valve replacement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum of 1 year of CVICU experience, with recent CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- IV Certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license required within 48 hours of signing.
- Employment eligibility verification (E-Verify).
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches.
- Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start.
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination.
- Latex allergy screening questionnaire if applicable.
- References: Two within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
- Work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start (New Jersey state requirement).
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Facility-specific floating policy acknowledgment.
- Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment.
- Vendor medical clearance form if history of positive TB.
- Various CEUs (Stroke, Trauma) as required by unit.
- Pass/fail competency exams must be completed within 72 hours of signing; failure after 3 attempts results in cancellation.

- Floating to critical care units (CCU/CTICU, ICU, stepdown) expected.
- Work every other weekend.

- Candidates must bring all required documentation to orientation.
- Candidates switching between sites within 30 days may have some documentation accepted from prior assignment.
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for a Registered Nurse in the Cardiac ICU (CVICU) at a New Jersey hospital. The position requires advanced cardiac care experience, including fresh open heart surgical patient care and familiarity with devices such as intra-aortic balloon pumps and Impella.
