OR Tech / Surgical Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Surgical Tech position primarily on Day shift (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 3 shifts/week) with possible Night shift rotation (7:30 PM - 7:30 AM, 3 shifts/week).
  • Bi-weekly orientation provided.
  • Surgical specialties include:
    • Neurosurgery: anterior cervical fusion, cervical fusion, craniotomy, VP shunt insertion, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion, ALIF, XLIF, kyphoplasty
    • Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT): endoscopic sinus procedures, septoplasty/rhinoplasty, mastoidectomy/tympanoplasty/stapedectomy, radical neck dissection, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy
    • Laparoscopic assisted cases
  • High surgical volume: 30 rooms, 60-80 cases per day.
  • Weeknight call required approximately 1-2 nights per week.
  • Weekend call required approximately every 4-5 weekends.
  • Off-shifting (1-3 shifts off per 4-week period) possible but not guaranteed.
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated.
  • Facility is 100% nicotine free.
  • Scrubs provided by the facility.
  • Locals are not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Orientation & Training

  • Bi-weekly orientation.
  • Annual skills checklist required.
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgement required.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), and NIH Stroke Certification required as applicable per unit description.
  • State license verification and primary source verification required prior to start.
  • National tech certification verification required.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • Background check within 30 days of start and updated annually, including:
    • Criminal history (all counties lived/worked/attended school in past 7 years)
    • Sex offender registry
    • Federal and nationwide checks (OIG, SAM, EPLS/GSA)
  • State-specific abuse/neglect registry search required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification required.
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually (specific drug panel required).
  • References: 2 work references from past 2 years required; if not a current traveler, one must be from most recent employer.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually.
  • Fit test for N95 masks within 1 year of start and updated annually (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+).
  • Tdap/Tetanus vaccine within last 10 years required.
  • Annual PPD testing or equivalent TB screening required; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required if history of positive PPD.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer required; boosters required for low/equivocal titers.
  • Hepatitis B titer required; declination acceptable if non-reactive.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; boosters required for low/equivocal titers.
  • Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
  • COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemption or declination accepted.
  • Baseline eye exam (Snellen) required within 30 days of start for OR staff, including Surgical Techs.

Additional Information

  • Call-back pay applies only if called back offsite after shift has ended. Extended shifts during a shift are paid at regular or overtime rates accordingly.
  • Travelers are paid differently than core staff and should direct pay questions to their agency.

Work Hours

  • 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each).
  • Shift times: Day (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM), Night (7:30 PM - 7:30 AM).

This position is ideal for experienced Surgical Techs with prior travel assignments who are comfortable with a high-volume, multi-specialty OR environment and call responsibilities.
