Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry

Location: Prestonsburg, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Job Description

• Provide nursing care on Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units with 2+ years of current MS/Telemetry experience.
• Patient ratios typically 1:5 or 1:6; ratios may fluctuate based on census and call-ins.
• Use of Meditech EMR system.
• Float within scope of practice as needed.
• Work every other weekend.
• Blocked scheduling is not accommodated.
• Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility (local candidates not accepted).

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky or a compact RN license.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Certification.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Certifications & Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required).
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year; updated annually).
• Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III).
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
• Other certifications as applicable to specialty and state requirements.

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam or physician note within 1 year prior to start, stating clearance to work without restrictions.
• Fit mask test completed onsite; PAPRs not accommodated if facial hair present.
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination valid within 10 years (Td not accepted).
• Negative TB test (Qgold) within 1 year, renewed annually; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire required if TB positive.
• Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR doses or positive titer).
• Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination within 1 year.
• Varicella immunity or vaccination proof.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
• Drug testing within 30 days of start using a specific 9-panel bundle (no THC) with expanded opiates and oxycodone; annual updates required.

Background & Verification

• Comprehensive background check including national criminal search, sex offender registry, fugitive database, county searches for last 7 years, and federal exclusions.
• Education verification.
• Employment application and resume with education and work history.
• 7-year work history verification through a third-party vendor (attestation letters acceptable if verification attempts exhausted).
• Two professional references within 1 year of start date (one must be a supervisor or higher; Charge RN acceptable for one reference).
• State-specific registry verifications as applicable (e.g., Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry).

Scheduling & Other Details

• Schedule follows a 36/48 hour pay period cycle.
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly.
• Assignment confirmation must be submitted within 24 hours of offer acceptance.
• Candidates must provide unexpired government-issued photo ID and valid driver’s license.
• Candidates must complete required facility-specific forms and attestations prior to start.
• Latex allergy accommodations available; candidates must notify employee health and unit manager onsite.

This position requires a dedicated RN with solid MS/Telemetry experience, appropriate certifications, and compliance with comprehensive health and background requirements. Night shift availability and flexibility to float within the unit are essential.
