Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Pediatrics (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a pediatric unit caring for medical surgical and hematology/oncology patients aged 0-17. This is a travel/contract position with a focus on crisis response.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers with 2 years of experience are accepted.
Certifications
- Required: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
- Preferred: Chemotherapy certification and experience, IV Start & Lab Draw skills.
Skills
- Ability to administer chemotherapy preferred.
- Float to PICU and NICU required.
Work Details
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
- Hours: 36 hours can be offered
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call Requirement: None
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling
- Orientation: 24 hours unit orientation plus hospital orientation week one (attendance required daily)
- Systems Used: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR
- Scrubs: Not provided (fun kid tops & navy pants recommended)
Patient Population
- Ages 0-17
- Medical surgical and hematology/oncology patients
Important Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation and Do Not Rehire status.
- Maximum RTO allowed: 7 days for auto-offer.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background check within 6 months required.
- Drug testing (9-panel) within 6 months required.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required; additional documentation if past positive.
- Immunizations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella required or documented immunity.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background) required ASAP after signing contract.
- Completion of facility-specific trainings and acknowledgments including confidentiality, medication safety, hospital policies, and bloodborne pathogens training.
- Competency exams including medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must pass with 82% or higher), and color blindness test required.
- Various certifications and verifications as applicable (e.g., NURSYS verification, education verification).
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to float to PICU and NICU units.
- Must complete all required orientation and training modules prior to start.
- Must comply with all hospital policies and documentation deadlines to avoid start delays.
