Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- PCICU experience strongly preferred; NICU, Pediatric Stepdown, and Pediatric RNs also considered
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Floating required
- Orientation occurs bi-weekly
- Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted
- Local candidates within 75 miles considered (local rate applies)
- First-time travelers are welcome
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty (Registered Nurse)
- Must hold a North Carolina or Compact nursing license
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
- Flu vaccine required (seasonal vaccination for 2025-26)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, NRP, CHEMO)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days of start
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap every 10 years
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccination or positive titers (no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Polio vaccine or attestation
Additional Requirements
- Must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
- Completion of online modules prior to orientation
- Competency exams and unit-specific skills checklists required
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months, including at least one supervisor
- Employment application and skills checklist must be current and complete
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and documentation deadlines
Work Environment
- Facility requires adherence to strict vaccination policies
- Floating between units expected
- Orientation and training provided, including crisis prevention training (CPI) where applicable
This position is suitable for nurses with pediatric or critical care experience who meet licensure and certification requirements and are willing to comply with comprehensive health and background screening protocols.
