Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri

Job Description

  • Unit: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Oncology
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam; interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
  • Floating required throughout the Oncology department as needed; may be assigned to different units based on need
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 4:1 for all shifts
  • Average daily census: 30 patients
  • Beds/rooms: 32
  • Every other weekend required
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Auto stem cell transplants
    • Chemotherapy administration
  • BCLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification preferred
  • Minimum 1 year experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only (if applicable)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA or AAP (if applicable)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required if extending past 9 months in Burn ICU or as per unit requirements
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Required if applicable
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required if applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for Neuro ICU RNs with additional on-site education
  • IV Certification - Required for LPNs/LVNs at Missouri facilities
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required as applicable
  • Unit Specific Competency Exam - Required annually; Oncology competency exam required for Med Surg-Oncology Unit
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Basic dysrhythmia exam required for RNs in Oncology and other specified units; must be completed within 1 year of start and updated annually

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • Valid Missouri RN license (Primary source verification via NURSYS required)
  • Government-issued ID required (Driver’s license if applicable)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required quarterly
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (no exemption in Bone Marrow Transplant Unit)
    • Negative TB test or equivalent within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination (no exemptions in certain units)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season

  • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual, must score 80% or higher)

  • Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
  • Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
  • Vehicle Registration form for day shift workers at this facility
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)

Work Schedule & Other Requirements

  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating within Oncology department as needed
  • Parking available with monthly fees; no charge for straight night shifts parking in employee lots
  • Scrubs required for orientation and work

Experience & References

  • Minimum 1 year nursing experience required
  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Oncology experience preferred; if lacking, escalation to BJC lead required
