Job Opportunity: Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Location: Mooresville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift:
- Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Patient Age Group: Adults, Adolescents, Pediatrics
- Scrubs Color: Royal Blue
- Orientation: Bi-weekly sessions
- Weekend Requirement: No
- On-Call Requirement: No
- Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum Experience: 1 year
- Licensure: North Carolina or Compact License in hand
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- Must be completed within 90 days of start date
- Includes: SSN Trace, counties lived/worked/attended school in last 7 years, alias searches, nationwide and international searches (if applicable), sex offender registry, education verification (if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 90 days
- OFAC Sanctions List Search required within 30 days
Health & Immunization Documents
- Physical Exam (within 12 months)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (within 12 months; chest x-rays expire every 2 years)
- TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive titer, no exemptions
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer, no exemptions
- Rubella: 1 vaccine or positive titer, no exemptions
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer, boosters if low/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Required every 10 years
- Polio vaccine or signed attestation
- Flu Seasonal Vaccination (for candidates starting October-March) – mandatory, no exemptions
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
- Other certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, etc.) may be required depending on unit specifics
- State License Verification and NURSYS verification required for LPN/LVN
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required at orientation (except RRTs)
Competencies & Training
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
- Color Blind Testing Online required for some roles (e.g., Phlebotomists)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
- Completion of Competency Checklists (CBOs) within 3 weeks after start date
- Completion of online orientation modules prior to starting orientation
- First Day Instructions (FDI) provided before orientation week
References & Employment History
- Two professional references required from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually
- 7 years of work history must be included on the employment application
Additional Notes
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file
- Flu vaccines and other immunizations have strict no exemption policies
- Orientation and training schedules are structured and mandatory for compliance
