Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Richmond, Virginia
Facility Type: Level 1 hospital


Position Details

  • Role: Weekend Float Case Manager
  • Schedule: 4x10 shifts, Thursday through Sunday
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 2 years nursing experience
    • Experience in a Level 1 facility required
    • Travel nursing experience highly preferred (locals allowed at same rate)
  • Education: BSN required

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only)
  • BLS (AHA only)
  • PALS (AHA only)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • State RN License (Permanent license required; no temporary licenses accepted)
  • NURSYS Verification (for all RNs)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)

Note: Certifications expiring within 1 month of contract start will not be accepted. No onsite renewals offered; renewals must be scheduled by the agency.


Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
    • All states lived/worked in past 7 years
    • State of permanent residence
    • VA Statewide Repository Search
    • SS Trace
    • All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Nationwide check
    • FACIS Level 3
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • Education verification (proof of diploma accepted)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting (Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check) required for certain units; results can pend but proof of submission must be on file
  • Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and documentation required for Pediatrics, NICU, Psych units, and certain facilities; must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Abuse Reporting Competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation of elderly or incapacitated adults

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Tdap vaccine required (declination accepted with handwritten signature)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Titers and/or boosters for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum; instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2025-26 season (declinations not accepted)

Competency and Skills

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for RN Case Managers)
  • Color Blind Testing (required)
  • Competency exams as applicable (e.g., Sonography or Vascular Tech exam accepted for those roles)
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Orientation and Facility Specifics

  • Orientation includes exams/tests such as Pharmacology Exam, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting
  • Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for RNs and LPNs in Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, ICU (peds and adults)
  • Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week
  • Must bring mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and laptop or cell phone (notify if not available)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required
  • Complete application/resume required
  • Performance evaluations completed at end of assignment (not required prior to start)
