Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Medical Surgical/Solid Organ Transplant Unit (SOTU)
- 36-bed unit providing medical surgical, telemetry, and progressive care
- Adult pre- and post-liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal transplant patients, and intestinal rehabilitation patients
- Adolescent patients (age 15+) cared for by core staff only
Staffing & Ratios
- Day shift ratio: 1:5
- Night shift ratio: 1:6 (can occasionally be 1:7)
- Float within scope to other units as needed (including Bellevue campus)
- Units may include: 4CS, 5 West, 6 Neuro, 4/5 Lied, 6/7 Lied, 7 HVU, 8 Werner, 9 Trauma, Bellevue MS, Observation, SOTU
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, swoop/paramedics; LPNs assigned on some floors
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a large, urban hospital (higher experience requirement confirmed)
- Prior travel experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIH and CPI certifications preferred
- EPIC charting experience required
- Drip experience required on all floors
- Must work 2/3 major holidays during contract
- Locals NOT accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
- Pending license accepted but must be in hand at time of submission or booking delayed 6 weeks
Work Schedule
- 36 or 48-hour shift options
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period
- Weekend days: Saturday and Sunday
- Weekend nights: Friday night and Saturday night
- Up to two weeks of Return to Office (RTO) permitted, subject to manager approval
Facility & Culture
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Mandatory scrubs: Steele gray with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates
Compliance & Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check within 30 days of start, including federal enhanced search
- SAM and OIG checks required every 30 days
- Education verification and primary source license verification required
- Various certifications required as applicable: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology testing required as applicable
- Health documents required: Physical exam, fit mask test, immunizations (Tdap, MMR, Hep B, Varicella), TB testing, drug screening, flu vaccination documentation preferred
- COVID vaccination preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted
- Annual skills checklist required
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years required
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with solid transplant or medical-surgical experience in a large urban hospital setting, comfortable with telemetry and progressive care, and who meet the certification and compliance requirements. Prior travel experience or experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center is strongly preferred.
