Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS Neuro)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical Neurology (MS Neuro)
- Shift: Days, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Call Requirements: Yes
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
- Floating Requirements: As needed
- Holiday Requirements: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
- Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
- Unit Description:
- 27-bed medical/surgical unit (8N)
- Patient population includes Orthopedics, Neurology, Medical/Surgical, and Oncology
- Patients typically include stroke, post back surgeries, post hip/knee replacement, and oncology patients
- General telemetry monitoring (monitor room), no cardiac drips
- Charting System: Cerner
Experience & Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Locals: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles away from the facility
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) - Required for all RNs, must be completed through BlueCloud
Background & Compliance
- Background check required within 90 days of start, covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Physical exam required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or Qgold accepted; T-Spots not accepted)
- TB questionnaire required prior to start and annually
- Immunizations required:
- Rubeola (Measles) - titer or 2 vaccines (booster if low titer)
- Mumps - titer or 2 vaccines (booster if low titer)
- Rubella - titer or 2 vaccines (booster if low titer)
- Hepatitis B - titer, series, or declination
- Varicella - titer or 2 vaccines (booster if low titer)
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine/opiate)
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start (flu season October–May)
Additional Requirements
- COVID-19 vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption with proper documentation
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements and photo for badge
- Completion of mandatory online modules prior to start (approx. 8-10 hours)
- On-site EKG exam required for Monitor Techs (not applicable for this RN role)
